This is Just to Say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
-William Carlos Williams (how sweet is that, his name is a palindrome)

i read the above poem in the days of yore and for whatever reason i have always recalled the general gist of it, though never word for word (as in i remember it talks about the deliciousness of stolen cold plums). i think to myself from time to time the phrase "this is just to say" and then i think about cold plums. and stealing. i think this poem stuck because when i first read it i am fairly sure i was like "what the heck. who decides what poetry is good enough to read in school?".  and i also liked it. it makes me really feel the coldness of a refrigerated to perfection plum. i also think it's kind of funny, because it doesn't seem he is sorry at all. it seems more like he is rubbing it in. i am glad they made me read it. anywho, back to the point. the point is when i decided to post i knew it was to be a comparatively short post and it was just to say one thing. so then the poem came to mind. it's a vicious circle. this is what i wanted to say:

This is Just to Say (a parody by elisa)

I have welcomed
the sun
that was in
the shadows

and which
you were probably
missing
just like me

Happy me
it is delicious
so warm
and so gold

i took this from my car as i was driving out of the parking lot from work because it was THAT good
today, the sun decided enough was enough.  and he shone upon the leaves transforming from green to gold to crimson.

and he shone upon the flowers still recklessly abandoned to their bright beauty in the face of the crispier temperatures.

and he shone upon a texas girl who has missed him so.  and as i lay here in my coziest sweater and my coziest flannel pants (shout out to flannel part 2) and my coziest socks, filled with the comfort of freshly baked pumpkin bread and mason jars of milk, with the mellowest lullaby from the ray lamontagne collection strumming its’ hypnotic melodies, i knew i had to document the happiness that a sunny, in the 70s during the afternoon day gave me (how's that for a run-on sentence?).  because the blessings of the Lord are meant to be shared and rejoiced in together.

i really want to be friends with this cloud

i took this waiting at a stoplight the stoplights in falls church are long and very long

this is just to say those leaves match the paint of our building perfectly so props to the picker outer of the paint because i dig matching with the leaves

tomorrow i get to see my lil’ pumpkin pie, a dear friend, and (so says weather.com) more of my blessed golden star, the one assigned to warm our planet and help bring life to all creatures.

here's some homemade pumpkin pie love, enjoy!

i hope you are having a starry week.
