i love the title “Mystical Rose” for Our Lady. and today is one of those special days in the year-a Solemnity of beauty. the Beauty of God’s Mercy and Faithfulness and Love for all people. He gave us Mary-a pure and spotless rose-to carry within her Immaculate body the Body of Christ.
she was the first to receive the Eucharist. she was the first to be a living tabernacle for the most Precious Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus. and this Solemnity, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Mother of God, celebrates this mystery. this mystery that took place hidden from all human gaze. the Conception of the most blessed among all women-the one who would utter the Fiat and be the first to receive the fruit of her Fiat.
it is only appropriate that she was the first to hold Him-for, as St. Elizabeth said so beautifully:
“Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” Luke 1:45
she believed first. and the Lord saved her, too. and allowed her to be conceived free from the stain of original sin. Immaculately conceived. and thus, she was able to forgive as her Son forgave as she watched Him be crucified. she was able to receive all of humanity as her children at the foot of the Cross. because she was, so truly, full of Grace.
today we celebrate the beauty of this Mystical Rose. this mystery that helps light our way in hope as we await His arrival. i pray you are filled with the gentle Love of our Heavenly Father, Who so generously gave us this beautiful woman as our Blessed Mother.
