Running along the theme lines of dressing for the life you want, i figured we could take the metaphor and run amok. Or in the general direction of my room. So today i am going with a decorating your room for the life you want motif. As I am on the road to becoming a more fully integrated person (sort of sounds like a self-help book thing, i know), it became apparent to me that I wanted and needed a decor that was more Elisaish. Pictures would obviously be the centerpiece, because I have unearthed and unleashed my inner photographer as of late. Thus, I did some research (pinterest holler), bought some twine, clothespins, and wallpaper looking sheets of paper and went to town.
The room is a work in progress (as is the girl who lives in it) and i am on an one-wall-at-a-time system, but as has been my experience, slow and steady wins the race. And my room so far has much more of a home flavor and i find myself spending more time in it than i did before i began its’ makeover.
The other night, i was in the process of falling asleep and I had just finished my second wall and was thinking of all the pictures that i had hung of my family and of the texas maps i had heartified and framed, and i thought of my other wall full of people i love, and i felt like my room was giving me a hug. It’s true. So, I must conclude, that just like being intentional with how I dress myself makes a marked difference, being intentional with how you dress your life spaces also matters.

Now, I am by no means a decorating master, but I will tell you that my methods are inexpensive, and the results are cozy and homey and inviting. Bottom line, when it comes to clothes and decorating your spaces, it has gotta be your style, or you ain’t gonna like it. I have tried going other directions with my clothes, and it never works. Never. So, know thyself, and perhaps thou shalt not waste a lot of money on not knowing thyself blunders. Needlepoint that sucker on a pillow and take it to the bank.
I love it when Christina and Sean come into my room now. They both end up eventually standing in front of the canopy wall (its’ just-given name) looking at the pictures. Anytime the lights are on, I do it, too.

So, here are a few simple things you can do to improve the look of a tres boring picture frame and a tres boring wall.
I have had these frames for a few years. Pretty sure I got them at Michael's for way cheap and they are now boring the bananas out of me. If I had it my way, my frames would be white, or wood, or any other color besides black. But, I don't have the dough to be so picky at this point, so I went to Joann's (new craft store obsession bc they have fabric plus all that other crafty stuff Michael's has), and picked up a yard or half a yard of some fabric i took a fancy to. Took the little background board out of the frame and cut out a piece of fabric to cover it. I covered it and then proceeded to wrap it up and hot glue it with the methods i learned in gift wrapping. And it worked rather well.

I cut the heart out of an old map of Texas I had in my car. Seeing as I have never actually used the map, I felt the map could have a better life on my wall in the vague shape of a heart |

If it is not yet obvious, the theme for the 2nd wall is home/texas |
One of my favorite aspects of these walls, is that the pictures are interchangeable. I have a whole heap of pictures I want to eventually display, and on the thread of knowing myself, I know i will want to swap them out eventually. But, whenever I put pictures in frames, there just feels like a finality about it. Like the effort to change out these pictures will so not be worth it. But with the clothespins, it’s a simple snap on snap off system. Bing bang boom. And I love that it looks so homespun and country. Like it could be in a meadow interspersed between little white cotton dresses bobbing merrily on a clothesline in the Spring sunshine. Like a Snuggle commercial. I love that little Snuggle bear.
There you be, my frugal, do-it-yoself, decorating methods. If nothing else, I hope it encourages you to be true to yourself in these little things in life. It has made me happier, being happy with the little things that I like that may not be the crowd favorites. God gave us our unique little likes and dislikes and He Loves them about us. He knows every imperfect hair on our heads, every tiny freckle, each little fleck of color in our eyes. And every little detail is precious to Him. These little things help make up the immortal being that He created from eternity to Love in this life and the next. So embrace it and love it. It gives glory to God, loving the person that is you that He created for Love alone.
It's the weekend. Go do some Christmas karaoke or something (this is what the kids I nanny did the first part of their day off on Monday-Christmas can live in our hearts all year round-especially when you have karaoke to help remind you).
or go catch some Sunshine!
