Happy TGIT-or Thank Goodness It’s Thursday if you don’t get my drift yet. That’s right, I’m bringing TGIT back. Back in the college days of yore, or not so yore perhaps, UD put on a little party in the Rat (our version of an on-campus convenience store/fast food joint/bar/dance club-pretty saweet). It was to try to make college just one step cooler than it already was. I am not going to say they wholly succeeded in some aspects, but I will say they were successful in bringing the excitement of the weekend to us one day prior than it had been in the past. So I say it was a worthy cause. A cause that should be promoted and supported, and who better for the job than this seasoned veteran of a college girl? No one comes to mind, so i’d say it’s unanimous.
So welcome to Thursday land. It is here to get you pumped for Friday. It is here to tell you hang in there, baby, you are this close to footloose and fancy freein’ it weekend style. It is here to remind you that God Loves you enough to give you life and breath this day, and that He will fill it with His Life if only you invite Him in. So invite Him. All you need do is ask and ye shall receive.
This week has been good and Christmasy (because what’s up? it’s still the Christmas Season. that’s what) and freezing and sleepy and Anne of Green Gables-y. I am reading Anne’s House of Dreams and it has become my current fave. I won’t go into why, because that is not what TGIT is about here today. I will leave you with a quote from said book that has given me strength and blessed me in being reminded of the trust that we must strive to place in our Lord every moment:
“That girl was born to be a leader in social and intellectual circles far away from Four Winds,” she said to Gilbert as they walked home that night. “She’s just wasted here-wasted.”
“Weren’t you listening to Captain Jim and yours truly the other night when we discussed that subject generally? We came to the comforting conclusion that the Creator probably knew how to run His universe quite as well as we do, and that, after all, there are no such things as ‘wasted’ lives, saving and except when an individual wilfully squanders and wastes his own life”
That is a comforting conclusion. The Creator knows what He is about and He knows exactly what we need and what’s best for us. If we do not squander the one thing that we do have control over in this life-our will-then we have nothing to fear. All will be well. God is in control. In darkness and sadness and in light and joy. He is there, leading us through, safely to the other side where He is already waiting for us.
And that’s a wrap for all of us here at TGIT land. Where the streets are paved with Saturday morning lounge wear, the breezes blow nothing but the scent of Friday through your hair as you drive in your weekend convertible to Sunday brunch that is fully stocked with chocolate chip pancakes, mimosas, and dancing shadows on wooden floors.
God bless ye merry Thursdayers! Happy almost weekend!
