once upon a time, there was a little fairy with shiny locks of red and a musical laughter that caused the hearts that heard it to sing along with joy.
when another year was growing old and weary, this little woodland sprite danced amongst the dryads and the water nymphs waving her magic wand.
as she weaved and waved she wove her magic spell upon the dancing leaves and looked on with joy as a new world of scarlet, gold, plum and chestnut sung the aging year a farewell lullaby.
in prose, i spent a morning with the little red-headed bear and realized how much better being with her makes everything.
i thought i loved fall and marvelling at the glory of my first experience in real seasons by myself. move over lone marvellings, because you hold no candle to duo marvel moments with Sophia Rose.
she gazed up into the canopy of trees with me as the mild fall winds kissed our faces and tossed red baby-soft tresses to and fro and gazed with wonder at this wonder filled world.
little fairy hand clutching her precious gem |
she laughed at the romping squirrel and repeated the word “nuts” to me when i told her that squirrels eat nuts.
our funny woodland friend |
if you heard her say nuts, you might have fallen over from cuteness overload. i showed her the first “wand” and handed it to her and she received it as if i had given her a crisp fifty dollah bill, and then proceeded to collect more wands and fill the gazebo with them.
but if that wasn’t great enough, she then did a little sophia jig in the middle of the gazebo as the wands applauded her with their leafy hands.
and, when she wants you to hold her, she gets on this really urgent voice and says “hold you! hold you!”. instead of hold me. because she CANNOT STOP THE CUTENESS.
so, suffice it to say, i am still obsessed. we love each other and we love the outside together. and we love doughnuts. and she has a pretty darn wonderful mama, too. spending my days off with those girls is an enormous happiness in my life.

it’s raining again today. my friend lizzie informed me that the last recorded 7 day stretch of no rain in this area was from July 28-August 3. literally 2 days before we moved here. thankfully, i stored some of last weeks sunshine inside, so i can take a leeetle bit of rain. and i am looking on the bright side and being thankful that the rain is not cold rain. it is rather warm, actually, and i will take it. but, i am ready for the sun whenever he so chooses to pour his golden glow into my life again.
on the way home between shifts of work today, the sky was doing the good things the sky does that makes the rain acceptable. and i got REALLY excited about it. excited enough to run inside, grab bubba’s camera, and run back outside to snap some shots (very little would induce me to do so after 4 hours on my feet at the restaurant). it reminded me of my texas heart. and though i am enchanted by the brilliant trees that dazzle my eyes in this strange new seasonal transformation, i still get more excited by billowing piles of whipped cream clouds and a sunset sky with its coats of many colors.
now i am ready for friends and pumpkin carving parties and oktoberfest beers.
i am ready for more of the little fairy and leaves changing into their fall array.
i am ready for Resurrection Day and the happiness of a Church full of souls gathered to celebrate His Love in the Eucharist. to nutshell it for you, i am so ready for the weekend.
happy almost mid-October which means i can almost start a 2 week countdown until the Feast of All Saints, which is the best. peace of Christ be with you.
